Elderly persons disregarded during Covid19
ABSA doesn't care about older people during this pandemic. My mom is 82 years old and live in a retirement center which means she is only allowed to go out for a minimum of 2 weeks and then she must go back. She may not go out for only a day if it is necessary. She received a notice that het debit card expires on Wednesday 2 September and that she has to exchange it for a new card by the end of September. When we went to the branch in Highveld mall, they did not let het move to the front of the queue - like Standard bank does with older people. When I phoned, I mistakenly phoned the Middelburg branch and the lady informed me that due to other customers getting upset if elderly people are moved to the front, they do not do that anymore. Another lady then spoke to me and gave me a different version. I then phoned Highveld mall's branch and the manager said they do moved older people to the front and that he will come outside and find out what is going on. He then came to the doors, called the person on the outside, spoke to her and left. She then came back outside, didn't say or do anything and just stood talking to the security guy. I then said to my mom I'm not going to expose her any longer to the inside of the mall for an undetermined time and then again on the inside, so we left and I took her back to the retirement center as she was due back after visiting us for 2 weeks. I just hope they will at least write off the fee that she will have to pay if she can only get the new card after the expired date as she will not be able to go to a bank again especially not at a time when the banks are not so busy. Please learn from Standard bank.
