DON'T TOUCH ABSA INSURANCE WITH A BARGE POLE!

On Sunday 9/7/23 I registered a claim with Absa Insurance, under my Homeowner's Comprehensive Insurance, for storm damage to my roof. Within 24 hours, I received a claim number (***) and was told to contact LERATO JAN by phone. My problems started at this point. 1) LERATO JAN was virtually inaccessible. I phoned 5 times in vain on Monday-Tuesday, each time being passed from one agent to another, and having to hold for long periods, only to learn that LERATO JAN was otherwise engaged (on the phone.) When I was eventually given her email, I initially received an automated response, saying she was out of her office. When I contacted her by email on 19/7/23, seeking reimbur*****t for plumbing work (see below), she still had not rep**** a week later, despite being reminded, and despite being told by her superiors to contact me urgently. 2) The contractors assigned to me by LERATO JAN, whose names were given me by her colleagues, were either inappropriate or ***********. The first, Asbes Away, said they worked only on asbestos roofs. (Mine is corrugated iron, as I had already informed Absa,) The second, 3T Building Repairs, specialised in making appointments with me which it then unilaterally broke. When it finally arrived on Wednesday, it did a cursory inspection of my roof, and declared that the leak in my roof would only be fixed after a few weeks. On Thursday, however, an assessor from an independent roofing company informed me that the problem was a leaking pipe to my geyser, not a leaking roof. My plumber agreed, but I have been unable to elicit a response from LERATO JAN as to whether or when Absa will pay his R3402 bill. 3) My complaints to LERATO JAN'S superiors at Absa have not met with any effective response. Overall: Absa Insurance Sucks!
