Do not utilise ABSA with your late estates

My mother in law passed in 2013 and appointed her son as the executor of her estate. After he recieved the executors letter he opened a late estate bank account at ABSA in 2014. As her property was the larger part of the estate the property was only sold in 2019. Now this process is finalised and the estate can be finalised. Her son went to ABSA in September 2022 to enquire if the account is still open. They assured him that it is. When he submitted the account number to the lawyers they informed him that they cannot deposit the money. He then went to the bank only to be told the account was not Fica'd. However, the bank on a monthly basis communicated regarding the account and never indicated that it needed to be Fica'd. He approach the bank with the necessary documents and they opened a new account indicating that they are going to submit it to the Master to verify him as executor and it will take 3 to 4 days no problem, However, it is now three weeks later with no joy. That is bad service.
