DISTRESSING EXPERIENCE WITH ABSA BANK REGARDING ***** CASE
Dear Hello Peter Team, I am reaching out to share a deeply distressing experience I recently had with ABSA Bank, which has left me feeling betrayed and unsupported. I was the victim of a *****ulent attack that resulted in the loss of over R522,595 from my banking accounts. This was not due to negligence on my part but rather a highly sophisticated and surreal hacking scheme. Despite being lured into this situation, I expected my bank to stand by me in this time of need. As a loyal customer and an elderly individual, I trusted ABSA to safeguard my finances. However, after Absa Bank recovered R 194 850.30 when stopping the *****ulent transactions and paid it back into my bank account, Absa Bank then tried to recover the other R 327 654.7-from as I understand was transferred to Nedbank and Capitec banks but seems to be unsuccessful and then outright declined to refund or even partly refund the remaining amount leaving me to bear this significant loss alone. I am utterly disappointed, as I believe ABSA should have measures, including insurance, to protect customers like me from such incidents where all your fund were moved from my visa account, savings account and my investment account to my current account (cheque account) where the money was withdrawn / transferred five (5) times the amount of R 99 999.00 and lastly an amount of R 22 600 firstly this should have trick a *****ulent transaction and secondly transferring money to another bank a new beneficiary should as normally be subjected to a 24 hour delay before the money has been paid over For Absa to take 3 months in trying to recover this money, seems to me that Absa has not placed this *****ulent case on a high priority and not professional providing the necessary care to recover the stollen funds which leaving me to bear at the moment with a significant loss not even mentioning the interest amounts Absa was applying to the debit loss on my current and credit account. I understand that ***** case was complexed, but as a bank that markets itself as a trusted financial institution, I expected more accountability and empathy. The lack of support and the refusal to assist feels not only unfair but also dismissive of my vulnerability as an elderly person who really on Absa Bans for financial security. I am reaching out in the hopes that this issue can be brought to light, and that Absa Bank will reconsider its stance. It is my belief that a bank should prioritize protecting its customers, especially in situations like these, where we are left helpless. Thank you for providing a platform for consumers like me to voice our concerns. Yours sincerely, Sybrandt van Wyk
