Credit card settlement disputed by Absa

I took out a credit card with Virgin Money in 2006,and settled it in 2012.Two weeks ago I tried to apply for an Absa credit card and was told the Absa/Virgin credit card matter is not closed.I spoke to a manager in their legal department who told me it was paid up in 2012 and she will get it closed.Days later I was told by the dame manager that the matter was prescribed by DMC debt collectors,and that they were sold my debt in 2014. I settled the debt in full in 2012 as per their system but my debt was still sold to DMC in 2014..Absa told me they were merely "facilitating" between DMC and myself.It's mind boggling to say the least that Absa doesn't trust their own system and they don't have an answer for me.In the meantime I can access credit facilities,and it doesn't seem Absa will ever help me..
