Credit card blocked even though funds available
I had to make a payment to Mugg & Bean today for food ordered. The vendor swiped my ABSA Credit Card to make the payment. The card repeatedly declined. I phoned ABSA to query this as my account was showing I had R133 available credit which would have covered the transaction. The consultant informed me that because I had short paid R50 on my monthly instalment I could not access the R133 available funds. I requested that ABSA release just R20 of my credit to me so that I could make the payment to the vendor. The consultant said this was not possible. I explained that I am expecting a R2000 payment into my account same day (transferred from FNB the previous day) so I would pay the R50 in same day, but nothing could be done.
I was in a very embarrassing predicament as I had ordered food and could not pay for it, even though my credit card was showing R133 available funds! I even went to the ATM to try and draw cash but my credit card was blocked, due to the R50 difference owing in the credit card instalment.
I find ABSA bank VERY INFLEXIBLE. I have been a loyal customer since 1988.
As a Platinum account holder I am very disappointed in ABSA's handling of this matter.
