Complaint Regarding Unjustified Account Charges

Cresta Branch Management

I am a longstanding client of ABSA Bank and wish to complain regarding the continued deduction of account charges following multiple confirmations from ABSA staff that such charges would cease.

On 27 March 2025, I contacted the Credit Card Department concerning my account. In early April, I was advised to visit the Cresta branch to apply for the Ultimate Prosperity Account. On 9 April, I did so and was assisted by Elias, who confirmed that all relevant accounts had been updated accordingly and that no further bank charges would apply. Despite this assurance, deductions continued. On 7 May, following another visit to the Cresta branch, staff again confirmed that the matter had been rectified. Nevertheless, charges persisted. On 4 June, Elias escalated the issue to Head Office under reference number TKT ***, yet deductions still occurred — including R400 on 1 July 2025, reportedly for the electronic deposit of my pension. On 7 July, I again met with Elias and the branch manager, who acknowledged the fault lies with Head Office and claimed the query had been escalated further. To date, there has been no formal feedback or resolution provided. This continued lack of action and communication is unacceptable, especially for a client who has entrusted ABSA with his banking needs for many years.

I trust ABSA will recognize the gravity of the matter and act accordingly.
