Complaint Regarding Handling of Vehicle Account by Absa Vehicle Finance
Good day,
I am writing to seek your assistance in resolving an issue with Absa Vehicle Finance concerning the handling of my vehicle account. My vehicle was involved in an accident, and while I was making arrangements to secure funds for its repair, I was informed by an Absa representative that the bank intended to repossess the vehicle, as I was behind on my installments. Between March and June of 2024, I received documents from the bank (one was a SARS form and the other was Absa form) for me to complete and send back to the bank indicating that the vehicle would be collected. I did send these forms back to (I think the person’s name was Andrew Stander) and I was informed that I would be informed of any outstanding amounts owed to the bank, but I never received this information. Recently, various individuals have contacted me about the account without providing any resolution. I even contacted Absa (Ms Mpho Matau) around June 2025 to inform that that I see that the vehicle has still not been sold, and how can the bank assist me to get it back. She also informed me that the Vehicle is in the process of being sold and it will be sold to the highest bidder, and the owing balance will be calculated from there. Now in July 2025, a representative from CRS mentioned that the repair facility was considering purchasing the vehicle for R50,000.00, leaving me with an outstanding balance of over R600,000.00. The representative, who appeared to act on behalf of the repair dealer rather than in my interest or that of the bank, was insistent that selling the vehicle at this amount was a better option. I find this approach unprofessional. Considering the fact that I was informed that the process will involve bidding, not it appears as if the opportunity is give to one person and he is even naming the price he want to pay for the vehicle, a price of R50000, for a vehicle that was bought brand new in June 2022. The representative's focus should have been on understanding the challenges at hand and determining why the situation has unfolded as it has, especially given the bank's lack of communication regarding challenges they previously faced. With the recent revelation that the vehicle has not been sold, I remain interested in continuing with this account and retrieving my vehicle. I am willing to negotiate with the bank to reach a common ground, as the vehicle has now accumulated interest and storage fees since my last discussion with the bank regarding repossession, which occurred between March and June of 2024. It is concerning that the vehicle appears to still be available, and I am eager to resolve this matter. I suspect possible mishandling, which may have caused unnecessary delays. Thus, I kindly request assistance in obtaining clarity regarding the status of my account and the repossession process, as my previous communications with the bank have been unsatisfactory. Thank you for your support. I look forward to resolving this matter promptly.
