Complaint: ABSA & MAK Law – Poor Service and No Choice in Appointed Attorneys

I was recently granted a bond with ABSA, who then appointed MAK Law as the bond registration attorneys. On 4 November 2025, MAK Law contacted me to confirm their mandate and advised that they would be sending an email outlining the required documents.

By 11 November, I still had not received this email, so I contacted MAK Law to enquire. After receiving no response, I called them two days later. Only then was I told that the reason I never received the email was because they had typed my email address incorrectly — instead of “gmail.com” they typed “gmai.com,” omitting the “L.”

This type of error is unacceptable, especially from a firm charging a full professional fee. Yet I am expected to accept this level of service as “standard,” according to ABSA.

I requested that ABSA switch the attorneys, as I had identified another firm on their panel who is both more professional and more affordable. ABSA refused, effectively forcing me to use attorneys I do not trust and to pay for their mistakes.

At the end of the day, it is my bond and my money, and I should have the right to choose the attorneys handling my matter. ABSA has taken that choice away from me, leaving me with poor service and unnecessary frustration.

I am lodging this complaint to highlight both the incompetence of MAK Law and ABSA’s refusal to assist when a legitimate concern was raised.
