Closing an Account is impossible!!!!

I have been in the branch and contacted ABSA only to be told they loaded a request to close my account and will be contacted in 48 hours. It has been more than a week and still no contact...

Everytime I phone they tell me only the 'closing' department can phone me and close the account.

This bank has become ridiculous in the ways they respond and do business.
