Clearance of a bank cheque

I cancelled my Nedbank account and received a Nedbank cheque on 16 January 2018 to be paid into my husband's Absa Private bank account no: ********** 10. It is now 21 January 2018, it is still not cleared and I called the Absa line ***. After all the security questions I was told that it will only be cleared on the 29 January 2018. I was not told why, because in the past it would take 48 hours. I want to know why it takes so long to clear a Nedbank cheque???? Where is the problem, Nedbank or Absa?????? Lately we have so many problems with Absa, we are slowly moving away, but now it sounds if Nedbank Parys is also a problem?? Please help, why so difficult to get a simple answer, why it takes so long to clear a bank cheque??
