Claiming for living annuity
My dad passed on in May, we met with a Financial Advisor early June who advised that as me and my sister are beneficiaries the payout will take 30 days and we completed all the documents. After 2 months with no feedback, I sent him an e-mail and he was happy with that. He decided that he will not assist us anymore. I called Aims and submitted the required documents they required, it's been now almost 6 months trying to get assistance. I'm not able to speak to a person handling our case, I speak to different consultants who give me different information of what's needed. My father had a Will with Standard bank who advised that Living Annuity does not form part of the Estate, but Absa's legal department says it is part of the estate even though there are beneficiaries, only my mom has passed on and she is still a beneficiary. Now we are told we need to get an Attorney for getting a letter of executorship, I fail to understand what is the purpose of having a Will. Everywhere I read it states unless there are no beneficiaries for a living annuity, then this can fall under client's estate. We were not given this information when we started with claiming, we also provided an estate late account as my sister has a letter of authority.
