Cheque Account handed because of areas

I had a Absa student cheque account, I soon discover that it was expensive. I the used Capitec, this morning I got a call from MBD telling me that I owe Absa a a huge amount because of the areas. Where as I made sure that I switched my debit orders when I opened a Capitec account. Why Absa didn't communicate to me. I feel like these banks are abusing their power.
