CATHY MUNDALL ABSA TOWERS

I shouldn't actually be putting any star on this but since it doesn't allow me to proceed -_- So, on 15 September I went to ABSA Ghandi Square to close my account and open a new one. The new account was opened but the old one was not closed. I was assisted by an L. Bhayroo; who advised me not to swipe my card until Monday so that by then I wouldn't have any swipes pending. She advised that I withdraw all the money because otherwise the account wouldn't close successfully. So today I went to ABSA TOWERS to complete the account closure. I was assisted by Betty Mohapi, who advised that there would be a R240 fee to close the account. Why was I not told about this fee previously? There was mote than R5000 in my account on the 15th so I would have paid that fee on the same day already; or I would have kept the money in the account so that I could pay today when I went to complete the process. Why tell me that I had to remove money and then turn around and tell me that I need to pay? I asked Betty to call the manager for me. The lady's name is Cathy Mundell. I did not appreciate her tone in the least bit. She was condescending quite frankly. She looked at my profile and said, very rudely; that I had to pay that fee otherwise ABSA wouldn't close my account. She proceeded to gaan aan, enjoying the sound of her own voice and cutting me off whenever I tried to explain. At some point I actually had to firmly ask her to let me finish. She then instructed Betty to explain the charges to me. Betty had already explained the charges before calling Cathy; and during her rant, Cathy herself spoke about the charges. She then asked Betty to explain the charges to me again; which was an implication that she believed me to be too stupid to have understood when being explained to initially. What really pi****d me off was how she said "Well we can't answer for the Ghandi lady because we were not there. Only the 2 of you were present at that conversation. THE GALL!!! This definitely, undeniably had an undertone of accusing me of lying. Worse still, I have worked in Customer Services and as a consultant you may NEVER, EVER IN YOUR ENTIRE CUSTOMER SERVICE CAREER, decline my request because "it was somebody else's mistake" EVERY PERSON AT ABSA REPRESENTS THE WHOLE COMPANY. 1 person's mess is the ENTIRE company's mess. Simply saying "It wasn't me" screams out that you are not a team player and therefore you absolutely refuse to fix your colleague's mistake. It means you are passing the buck and basically saying that your company is running an "each man for himself" company. There is a slogan at my current employer: "AS ONE". Cathy could learn something from that. It also puts the company's name into disrepute because uttering those words implies that the company has done a dismal job of training you. Also, please explain to me how such a rude individual managed to score a management job because looking at how she treats customers, one can conclude that her staff has it even worse. When she says "I wasn't there" is she saying that as a manager she is not responsible for escalations? Is she saying that guiding the team is not her problem? I'm not paying any fee that I wasn't initially told about; especially since upon my 1st consultation I have more than 10 times the required R240. Sort this out. Close this account. I will also need a written apology from Cathy for her rudeness and inability to listen (I thought being a good listener was key in customer services but ke... Guess it doesn't apply to managers) So as I was saying, I need a written apology from Cathy herself. Not from the ABSA complaints team; NOT from the ABSA HelloPeter team but from Cathy Mundall. If this R240 isn't waved and I don't get that letter from Cathy, you may google my personal friends in Media: Tshepi Nthiya of ENTICE MEDIA and Prince Morake of Weekly South Africa, Mantsheuwa Mo***eng of LESEDI FM. Not only will I consult with Scorpion Legal but through the above mentioned individuals, I WILL ensure that your company gets THE WORST review ever in the history of this country.
