Callous Business Practice - Absa
Absa repossessed a vehicle of mine after I had made an arrangement to catch up payments. Yes, I was behind on a few payments, I had discussed the reasons with a bank official who came to my house to inspect the car. I had been unemployed for a couple of months but was still making some type of payment on the vehicle. I informed the bank official that I would catch up the payments as I was going to start a new job. Nothing more was heard from the bank so I started the job and was paying off more than my monthly amount was... So 7 months later I got a call from another bank official stating that the sheriff of the court was coming to uplift the car. I contacted my attorney who spoke to the attorneys who had requested the repossession order, they said they would speak to their client Absa and see if they can re instate the hire purchase agreement..... One person at the bank made a decision to deny this, at the time of the repossession I was 1 payment in arrears. So the car was repossessed. I then arranged finance with another institution to settle the outstanding on the car and take over the hire purchase. this had to be done within 30 days as I was led to believe. I was continually given wrong information and eventually the new hire purchase company withdrew their offer of finance and the car disappeared into the system and was sold on auction. Now, because of this I was penalized nearly 2 months salary from the company where I worked as I could not work as I had no transport. I am a representative who calls on customers. Now more than a year later I am being hounded by Attorneys saying that I still have a large amount outstanding on the finance agreement. I got many threatening sms's and emails from the one Attorney.... I reply to the email.... get ignored... phone in approximately 20 times to be pushed from one person to another... just about everyone of them having the intelligence of a biscuit between them. Eventually speak to someone who will get me the answers I require. Only to start receiving sms's from another attorney saying exactly the same things. I do not feel that Absa is being represented in the correct way and feel that Absa could have looked at my situation and reacted differently. I believe there are a number of other people's futures that may have been ruined in the same way that mine has. I rely on purchasing a decent car to be able to carry out my work and not being able to buy another car has seriously affected the position I now have and future positions. As a single father trying to support my family I have been dealt a devastating blow by Absa. If I look at the millions that the bank has made out of me as an individual and in my business in interest etc. dating back to the old Trust Bank days, it is disgusting how we in South Africa are literally being ****d in plain site by all "our" banks every single day.
