Burst geyser claim

To whom it may concern Trust all is well today. We bought our home about 16 years ago and pay our insurance religiously every month. However, now that we want to claim for the burst geyser we found that so much has changed. I originally thought that we would call the bank in difficult times and that is it but strange enough that is not how its done at the moment. Nevertheless it is an old house and we understand that things somehow are going to fall apart. We put a claim in for a burst geyser in 2008, and we thought that the geyser was compliant but apparently now it's non-compliant?? and also the geyser is situated in the centre of the house, placed in a cupboard. (photos attached) Apparently that is not safe and it doesn't have a proper overflow tray and outlet pipe. I was told that we should have received COC on the day the plumber replaced the geyser. So who is actually to be blamed and who is now running around trying to sort the claim and taking responsibility for that installation of 2008...... Learned so much about this geyser now it is not funny so I have to put some humor into this story before I lose my cool. So to make this geyser compliant it has to be relocated to the outside of the house. This would mean that an electrician must be assigned for the job and damages will be endured in between all of this work plus again the inconvenience to the household. So this is actually the complaint now: We noticed that our geyser burst once again on or before 6th August 2021, but could only advise/call ABSA on Saturday 7th August 2021. It also damaged our wooden floors in the three rooms. So the passageway has tiles that will lift eventually....so who will have to pay for that again? Two plumbing companies (Aquality and Solar plumbers 4 U) were assigned by ABSA to come and check but they were not happy with the findings. The reports were sent to ABSA but I have no idea what was discussed as I never saw any of the reports. What they told us when they inspected the problem is that 1.they would have to go under the bath and place a 50mm pipe to make it compliant or 2.Relocate to the outside of the house... We have a flat roof so we are unable to place it inside the roof or even on top of the roof as it is asbestos. My question to the plumber and the bank was who will pay for the damages to my bathroom as I have no extra tiles etc....but no joy and no positive answer from any of the parties. I also requested for the accessor to come have a look at the problem. Ms Benita Benado (not sure on the spelling) visited our home on 17th August but advised that a full report can only be given once they replace the geyser. She also told me that she knows nothing of geysers or plumbing but will give her report on the wooden floors to be repaired. After many phone calls and conversations from trying to sort it out we are still sitting with the problem to date. Besides the inconvenience of no hot water it is also an electrical, water risk to us as people living in this home. Our electricity bill skyrockets as we have to boil kettles of water everyday. Every time the bank administrator would advise that money will be paid into our account and I kept on saying that we don't want to go that route as it will be too little and not enough for the damages. Eventually on the 24th August I spoke to Kevin Zondo and he advised that a payment of R10,805.40 will be paid into our banking account for the burst geyser, deduction of R800.00 for the excess and R6369.55 for the damages to the wooden floors, deduction of R800.00 for the excess. Still I advised Kevin that the amount is not enough. Kevin then advised that I should get a plumber of my choice and email the quote to him. I had three companies out to my home but only received two quotes one of which I attached to this email. The other quote was given to me but the plumber was not happy to do the job if I am not happy relocating the geyser to the back of the house and running electrical wiring from where the original spot of the geyser is to the outside to pass the shower in the bathroom. He would most definitely not take that option quite frankly. Secondly we would have to get our own electrician and that account would also have to be paid by us but not included into the amount given by ABSA so I haven't sent it to Kevin. One of the plumbers advised that to make it compliant he would chase a 40mm pipe along the back of the geyser between the kitchen wall. Raise the geyser, put it on a bracket and place a bigger tray underneath for easy access.Still we are looking at tiles that will need to be replaced and kitchen cupboards that need to be fixed. No need to relocate. This to me sounds more promising. Awaiting his quote. So no matter the route we are to take, repairs are the call of the day and no one is taking responsibility for that? We have looked at so many options and it is not that we are difficult, it is being realistic here. So on 26th August I received a call from Joyce at Solar Plumbers 4 U and advised that they were assigned to proceed to relocate the geyser...HOw do you understand this story? Quote attached to this email and I called ABSA today to advise Kevin that I emailed him the quote. Kevin was not available at the time of my call. No reply as yet. Trust that we can come to some positive result as soon as possible. Thank you and kind regards Charles *** Naomi *** PS: We have not heard anything from any person at ABSA short term insurance to date. No phone call nor any emails. Emailed from my work email as well.
