********* Banking Practices
I inherited some invested with ABSA in August 2024. Our family ran into some financial difficulty in October 2024. We were allowed one withdrawal and charged 4.6% of the funds withdrawn. We thought it was okay because it came out of our interest. We were still in problems and could not make another withdrawal, and was advised that the only way to get funds was to close the account. So we went ahead and closed the account, reason being we were desperate. We were then charged another 4.6% which was not just the interest but the bank took a huge part of my funds. In total they charged me about R70000.00 , which was part of my investment. Further, the status of my account shows closed. When I requested the interest for the time that the funds was invested. I was told that the interest will only be paid at the end of term of the investment. This dose not make any sense to me or my family. If an account is closed then all debits and credits should show in the account and funds paid out. My investment shows no interest for the time it was in the account , until closed . I worked hard to obtain my funds and thought that the bank will penalize me by just not paying me the interest earned on the account and return my funds, But no they made sure they took the interest plus funds from my account. We know that the bank is in turmoil at the moment, but what they are doing to try and recover is make the man on the street pay for their shortfalls. A bank is there to make a profit from people who are investing, and people who are borrowing. My bankers are practicing white collar crimes and are getting away with it.
Acceptable Resolution required. All my funds be returned, and penalize me by not paying me the interest. I look forward to hearing from the CEO of ABSA in connection with this.
