Banking *****
I am also one of the many victims of sophisticated bank ***** through which I lost money saved over years. I received a call from ABSA’s Credit Card Department. When I heard it was from the credit card department, I hung up the phone and immediately verified the number through Truecaller, which confirmed that it was indeed from the Credit Card Department. The same person and number called again, indicating that *****ulent transactions had been identified on my ABSA account, and during the call claimed that these transactions had been reversed. At no point during the conversation did I provide any pin number or password, and it was clear that the caller had access to my personal banking details at ABSA. Moreover, the conversation was conducted in a highly professional manner that made me trust the legitimacy of the call and the process that was followed. Shortly after I ended the conversation with the caller, I began to suspect that I may have been deceived, as no transaction reversals appeared on my accounts. I immediately contacted the ABSA ***** Department who confirmed that my account and portfolio had been compromised and that I was indeed a victim of *****. They advised me to prepare and submit documentation, which I did. Three months later, I received a phone call and letter from ABSA’s ***** Department stating that: …it did not emanate from Absa. In this case, your card and personal secure details (Pin or One Time Password) that were issued only to you were used. It therefore seems that you have been a victim of *****. Importantly, the protection of personal secure details is an important customer responsibility. Based on these findings, regrettably, your claim of R******,XX has been declined. This is the response of a business to a client since the 1970’s.
