Balance on student loan account after loan was settled 6 years ago.

I received a registered letter from Absa stating that my debt review was terminated and that I urgently needed to contact Absa about an outstanding balance. I was personally never under debt review and it's been confirmed by Absa's debt review department. They don't find anything under my name. The letter comes SIX years after a student loan was settled. The settlement amount put forward by Absa's student loans department on the 1 February 2012 was paid in full on the same day and I still have the document to prove the amount paid into the student loan account. The transaction note was stamped by Nedbank on the day the transfer took place. The student loans department was contacted after this to confirm payment. It was understood that the account was settled. No paid up letter was sent.

Today, after making several calls and waiting, no one can explain why this account is still active, has a balance and why only after 6 years this letter reaches me.

The matter is under investigation, but I am incredibly disturbed by what is happening now when I have moved on knowing this debt was paid up in full so many years ago.

I have sent in copies of the letter as well as the copy of payment made in 2012. I can't imagine why so little effort was made to contact me IF the settlement amout was given in error(which was not so) in the very same year the amount was paid. No phone calls, no emails, no post. Nothing until June 2018! This is very suspicious! There is a good reason that I don't bank with Absa anymore and never will in future.
