Bad communication with respect to credit card activation
Atrocious handling of my new credit card activation. I have found myself in the unfortunate position to have had my credit card cloned and used for online purchases. Fortunately I have noticed this immediately and phoned the bank to stop it. I have received my new card on Friday afternoon. I have read the letter that came with it which stated I can activate it at a paypoint or ATM. Nothing said about going into a branch. I made sure. So I go to the closest ATM and was able to test by drawing a small amount of cash. All well till this point. Later in the afternoon when the banks was about to close I get an SMS telling me to activate my card or phone the given number. So I phoned and the service agent told me I have to go into a branch physically to activate it as it is now locked. I then proceeded to ask whether the ABSA branches will be open on Saturday morning and the agent told me very confidently "yes". Saturday morning Google provided me with 3 branches closest to my house which showed as "open". I visited all three to find they are in fact closed on Saturdays. I have wasted an hour and a half and then went home disappointed still unable to use my card for the weekend. This may seem small, but if ABSA is so unable to manage this basic stuff, how should I now feel confident in them handling all my money? I am strongly considering walking over to the competition.
