****

I am a 70 year old SA citizen and was ****med via ABSA internet banking. On 4 January 2026, someone claiming to be from the Qatar Airlines called me offering me a pensioner's discount on flights and requested me to logon to the portal. I did as requested and had to add my ID number. On 5 January 2026, when i wanted to log into my ABSA account to purchase electricity, I could not and immediately went to the bank. When I got there, I was told that R40 000 was taken from my account. The person claiming to be from Qatar hacked my account by using my ID number. I can't understand how that is possible. I have reported it to the bank, the SAPS and to the NFO and now I am told that I will never get my money back as the bank won't be held liable for me giving my ID number. From the NFO report, it was a tradecrypto account...What does a 70 year old know of crypto trading??
