Avoid Absa insurance
We bought a house via Absa and the insurance was compulsory. Which is fine. We pay our loan with the insurance with no default. We recently had an issue with our built in stove. The plates you have two temperatures one cold or burning hot. The oven itself switches on by itself. I reported this matter to Absa. Keep in mind that they previously did send their contractors when the stove was not working at all and the elements and timer was replaced. A year after this repair the above happened where you have two plates working with two settings and stove switches on by itself. Also keep in mind its a built in oven with wooden cabinets and the thatch roof lapa not even a meter away. Absa Insurance refused the repair on replacement of the stove and when we tried to cancel or our policy with them this was also denied based on the fact that the replacement policy does not cover the house properly according to them. They want a replacement policy for the value of R 1.7 mil on the house. The market value is R 900 000, the value according to the realtor is R 900 000 and the municipality value is R 700 000. Absa refuses to supply us with a contract, value certificate where they got the value of R1.7 mil and yet we have to on our own account get a valuation done if we would like the amount lowered and then they might agree to accept the replacement policy and cancel our policy with them. But its fine, Absa's attitude is rather let the house burn down then to replace a faulty item
