Another empty promise....

I complained on HelloPeter on 3 November about R3300 admin fee that was deducted without my knowledge or consent from my account. A lady phoned me and said a manager will phone me back, now - after more than 10 days - nobody has phoned me back.

Absa deducted R3300 admin fee on 2 Nov 2017 from my account!!!!! How can they be fine with this, how can anybody budget for such a ridiculous deduction from their bank? I was never contacted and this was never discussed with me. I don’t know who gave them the authority to debit this amount as it definitely wasn’t me, the holder of the account. I was retrenched in January 2017 after 4 months work due to cash flow challenges. Its hard enough trying to survive at the moment, and then this unauthorised debit happens. ABSA is aware of this my current situation, we can't buy food or electricity, our medical aid has been cancelled, life policies were stopped, we really are down on the ground, and then on top of it ABSA comes and put some more nails in the coffin, let's kick them while they are down!!!!! This is how they help their clients, "Today, tomorrow together!"

Dear Mr. Els

I refer to your complaint posted on Hello Peter.

Please accept my sincere apology for any inconvenience we may have caused you.

Kindly note that this matter was escalated to the Branch Manager Desiree Lawrence to investigate, upon investigation it was established that the amount debited was for unpaid debit orders.

You were then contacted to advise of the same and you agreed that you are aware of the debits.

Please be advised that as a customer you are responsible to ensure that you have sufficient funds in your account to service your debit orders, or cancel the debit orders with the 3rd parties debiting your account.

Regrettably the Bank cannot refund the charges for you as it appears that those debits are valid.

I trust you find the above in order.

Best regards,

I'm sorry, but this is unacceptable. Being retrenched has got a lot of problems that come with the territory, none of which I'm responsible for. For you to deduct such a ridiculous amount without consulting or informing me is ******* and *****. Why not rather try to help people than to knock them down further. Desiree did phone, but said she will investigate and report back to me, which she didn't do up to now - another promise that has not been kept. I've been an account holder for nearly 20 years and this is how you treat your customers - this is atrocious!
