ABSA Vehicle Insurance *****

I have not received any SMS'es, any post, any email or any correspondence from ABSA requesting me to submit a proof of my vehicle insurance. I took out the financing with ABSA 9 months ago. When I took it out I submitted proof of my insurance. However, this month they automatically opted me in to their insurance without my knowledge or consent. I have not received a single communication line about this.

But, I know that ABSA does this. I've read countless hellopeter reviews of people complaining about this. And always ABSA just replies with their stock standard reply. We will investigate.... (They will probably leave the same reply here.)

I phone the vehicle finance call centre, and the lady explained that it is in my contract with ABSA that they can do this. I read through my contract and even submitted it to my lawyer, and we can't find anything in the contract allowing ABSA to do this.

Now, seeing that this is a repetitive thing by ABSA, shouldn't we take them to Carte Blanche or even the Consumer Ombudsman?

This is really terrible sneaky methods used by ABSA. They know good and well that some people don't notice this - and they also know, seeing that they did not send me any information about this so called new insurance policy I have, that the client will not actually claim on it because they don't even know it exists.

How on earth does ABSA get away with opting people into insurance policies without prior communication. Why don't they just send you an e-mail stating: "Please submit your proof of insurance blah blah blah" and then we can submit it and klaar. Why all the secrecy and smoke and mirrors?

Awaiting a stock standard ABSA reply in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
