ABSA Vehicle Finance - Unsympathetic and Cold in Trying Financial Times
I received a call from the number *** at approximately 10H58 today 14 September 2022 namely ABSA Vehicle Collections representative namely Lerato Tu***gomo. I was informed by Ms.Tu***gomo that I am behind on vehicle payments, I then indicated to Ms. Tu***gomo that I had forwarded a written motivation to ABSA Vehicle Restructurings on the 19th August 2022 (in lieu of being Self Employed and losing my business post the Covid-19 Lockdown). Following my application to ABSA Vehicle Restructurings, I received an SMS +*** on the 02nd September 2022 at 08H03 informing as below: (Dear MR X, this is a reminder that your arranged payment of R***X.000 is due tomorrow. Please note, you are contractually required to make your instalments by the due date. If you pay by debit order, please ensure the necessary funds are in your account, or if you pay by cash, please pay on or before the due date. If you have already paid, no further action is required. From Absa Vehicle Finance.) I explained to Ms.Tu***gomo that I had app**** for assistance on the 19th Aug-22 and had received an SMS on the 02nd Sept-22 from ABSA Bank confirming my arrangement of R***X, which was duly paid. Ms.Tu***gomo stated that this SMS received from ABSA is not valid. I then indicated to Ms.Tu***gomo that I received this communication in writing from ABSA, and therefore how can it not be valid. I confirmed to her that I will forward to her my application for assistance dated 19th Aug-22 and the confirmation SMS dated 02nd Sept-22, but she plainly refused and in a firm tone stated that communication from ABSA is not valid and only what she is stating is valid. I tried to explain to Ms.Tu***gomo the reason for my financial situation and the situation that I am faced with meaning that I am the owing (close to R560K) more than what the vehicle is worth under (R300K). Ms.Tu***gomo informed that I should sell the vehicle for whatever it’s worth and make an arrangement to pay of the balance. I explained to Ms.Tu***gomo that I will have no vehicle to assist earn an income and will further have to a service a debt. I then enquired with Ms.Tu***gomo as to how best can the ABSA Bank assist me, seeing that I am in a financial situation, I was informed in a cold and unsympathetic tone that ABSA Bank is unable to assist me. Is this the way that ABSA’s treats a client of more than 30 years with the Bank, having an immaculate financial record, and after being financially affected post Covid Lockdown. I further informed Ms.Tu***gomo that I am unsatisfied with the way she has dealt with my matter, by way of not wanting to hear what I had to say or even for that instance acknowledge the written communication from ABSA, I went further to inform her that I have previously written to the CEO, and I find myself without an option but to escalate my matter to his office. This was when Ms.Tu***gomo hung up on me. It is really trying times for a number of self-employed people like myself, that had to endure trying times during and post covid lockdown, and have to find a way to make a living to survive, with maintaining debt that had to be incurred due to minimal income.
