I am old school. From an era when marriage, schools, banks and police stations were respected. An era when honesty, loyalty and values mattered. That explains perhaps why I sticked with first Volkskas and later ABSA for roughly 60 years. Through thick and thin. Up until 10 years ago my family of 6 had more than 20 different ABSA accounts. Today we have 7 and it will soon be less. The younger ones have all packed up and left for Investec or FNB.
Let me tell you about one of the recent incidents that broke the camel's back in mid February 2021. I registered claim *** for a 9m portion of a boundary wall that is about to collapse. It was turned down by ABSA because the pillars of the pannels are not spaced 3 meters apart. It might have been an argument except for the fact that it was ABSA who build the wall several years ago after a storm damaged it. Their inspector then approved it as fine and signed it off. However in 2021 another ABSA inspector /assessor deemed the brickwork as unprofessional and '*******' and turned the claim down. They are now penalising me for shoddy work that they themselves performed years earlier!
ABSA however did not inform me about this decision and kept quiet and it took severral calls of plus minus 10 - 12 minutes before I managed to to reach a consultant. My subsequent attempt to debate this decision with Hans, the assessor, was met with arrogance and a terse remark that ABSA will not rebuild the wall. Finish and klaar.
Is ABSA honest and loyal? Are they reasonable? Do they deserve my continued support and respect like years ago? You decide for yourself.
PS : By the awy, in a period of more than 20 years thet I have insured the property with ABSA, I have probably not claimed 4 or 5 times for anything. The last claim being many years ago.
Best regards,
