I have recently been subjected to an unfortunate set of circumstances which have caused me to be unable to make payment towards my ABSA overdraft account.
At the end of last year my company underwent a massive retrenchment, and as a result my employment was terminated on 31 December 2019. Said information and proof thereof was sent to ABSA Bank via email correspondence, as advised by ABSA Bank when I personally visited the Bank for financial guidance.
Approximately a week ago I received a call from the ABSA overdraft department asking me when payment will be made. I was even asked if I do not have any money laying around which could use to make payment, even though I explained my circumstances to the ABSA representative.
I was then told by the ABSA representative to forward him the email I sent ABSA, which I did that same day.
After not hearing anything back from the ABSA representative that following week, I telephonically contacted the ABSA overdraft department, only to discover that my overdraft was cancelled. This was done without my consent.
I regard it highly ********* the manner in which the ABSA overdraft representatives talk to their clients.
I was talk to and ultimately treated as n ********. For what you may ask? For being party to a retrenchment process which in law is regarded as a no fault dismissal.
Thanks ABSA for putting bread on my table this month. I'm sure the payment time extension you could have granted me was totally out of the question.
Best regards,
