ABSA - Trying to make me liable for a charge they are liable for 5 months after account closure
My credit card was *****ulently cancelled during March 2023. As a result, ABSA had to send me a replacement credit card. This was obviously at their expense, as the request to stop the card was not made by me and should not have been allowed. At no stage did ABSA state differently or discuss any replacement fees or charges with me.
As my ABSA accounts were subjected to further ***** attacks, I closed my credit card in April 2023. All outstanding monies and fees were paid and I received a closure letter. However, 5 months after the closure I received a statement showing a delivery fee of the replacment card and ABSA has told me I'm liable for this fee. What I would like to know is why am I liable for replacing a card that should not have been stopped by ABSA in the first place. ABSA cancelled the card in my possession and is therefore liable to ensure I receive a replacement card! Furthermore, if ABSA is of the opinion that I should be held liable for the delivery of a card to replace a card that I never wanted cancelled, then why not inform me at the time the replacement card was discussed as well as disclose fees and charged. Please also clarify why a 5 month period passes until you attempt to charge me for delivery? Stating that the transaction banked late is simply valid. This matter seems entirely unethcial and should be properly investigated.
I wasted a lot of time emailing back and forth with consultants. I've also contacted ABSA Action, who have still not responded. A consultant in ***** Division did reponded, but decided to close the case opened with ABSA Action, without so much as typing a reply to my complaint. I would love to know on what basis she felt it was justified closing the complaint?
