Good day,
My grandmother bequeathed her entire estate to my mother when she passed on in August 2017. Absa Trust was informed accordingly and we were assured we would be contacted if anything else was required. We require the original copy of the Will.
However, 2 years on and suddenly we get a statement from an Estate Attorney for R38K to have the estate wound up and that Absa Trust, not my mother is appointed as the Executor of the estate. Does it appear that the original will is going to cost R38K?
The will is straightforward and ABSA should not be appointed as the executor as my mother is not employed and will not have the money to pay the Estate attorney to have this matter wound up.
They informed us, very abruptly that is how it works and that the document was sent to the Master of the Court in Jhb. We went there and were informed there was nothing on file.
Absa Trust not helpful at all as one branch sent us to Watloo, another to ABSA Towers.
Please can we just have some proper feedback as to how you the bank can have my granny’s wishes on file, yet appoint themselves as executors and appoint an expensive lawyer at will.
We need to move on from this and ABSA is not helping.
Best regards,
