ABSA: The Little We Care
Absa cares very little for its clients and much less for ex staff. I used to work for ABSA over 15 years, just before a retrenchment session I left. My pension after 15 years was less than R160k, I left on salary grade of over R120k.So you can see how poor their investment skills are for staff. My husband’s business sustained us and I invested this small pension into his business. Then the country hit a recession and the business started to struggle and loans were taken to assist etc. however the business kept declining and we had to move premises and then the business just died. After 20 years in business we closed doors in 2019. All this time I sent emails to the credit departments off Standard and Absa warning them this is happening and how can they assist me and nothing happened. Then my home was foreclosed on, we sold everything we own to try make payments and then to try live during Lockdown. I informed Absa pre-legal I had only my salary of just over R6k pm to look after my family of 4 and this includes rent and electricity. That there is no human way I can pay anything. Husband could not liquidate as he is a sole prop and had no creditors. I can’t sequestrate as I cannot afford the fees or to pay R2000 pm to my debt. So Debt relief companies declined me. The banks solution was to send my debt to debt collector after debt collector. More than 8 calls all times of the day everyday even during level 5 Lock down. Struggling with thoughts of suicide, I begged friends in the financial field to help me figure out what I can do. The end result is I can’t #WIN. I must ignore the calls and wait for summons and then explain to the court. It has been almost three years now and the phone calls don’t cease. Last night at almost midnight a debt collector called. Would you say this is a caring bank?
