ABSA - Teh best bank -NOT !!

The utter no care attitude and absolute no client service at ABSA Business is a story to be told.

During the middle of November we found that our creditors are on a new payment system which would cause a delay on payments received which in turn will place pressure on the business debit orders and payments.

While on the business internet banking I found that I have been pre-approved for an addition of R60 000-00 on the business overdraft. I followed the steps to apply on the system as prescribed. After completing the process I even received a reference number and confirmation that I will be contacted within 48 hours by a ABSA representative.

Two days past and nothing. Give the bank a few more days …….and nothing. I again app**** on the internet banking for the pre-approved overdraft and again received a reference number with confirmation that a ABSA representative will contact me.

A week went by and absolutely nothing happened….no call, no email no nothing.

I decided to contact ABSA Business which turned into absolute hell. After contacting the 0860 number and waiting to be assisted I came to discover that ABSA Business has no idea what they are doing. I attempted to explain to the a few *********** clerks what I require and that I have two reference numbers with regards to a pre-approved overdraft. They had no idea what I was talking about.

The answer I received from the *********** ABSA staff was as follows:

“Actually the overdraft application on the system is for individuals”

Why was this not noted on the system, why was it on the business internet banking? The answer I got, yet again priceless was: “It must be a mistake”

I then at a loss of words decided to make an appointment with a business consultant who would be able to assist me with the overdraft. An appointment was made for 01/12/2016 at 11h00 at 54 Atlas road Dunswart. I received yet again a reference confirmation from Mrs. Chato Motake.

On 29/11/2016 I arrived at ABSA Dunswart bright eyed and bushy tailed for my appointment with Mr. Godfrey Maja. Godfrey Maja never showed for the appointment. We contacted him from Dunswart ABSA asking him when he will be at the Branch. Godfrey added that he was at the branch but left as I was not at the branch. While keeping him on the line I asked the manager Maria if he was here at any stage. Maria confirmed that he has not been at the branch. I confronted Godfrey with regards to him being economic with the truth. He then changed his story and said that we had to meet at a ABSA in Boksburg.

Two issues:

1) I have a reference confirming the date and place of the meeting made by Mrs. Motake.

2) Why did Godfrey change his story after being confronted?

This was an absolute shock and returned to my office. Later the day Godfrey contacted me and arranged to see me at my office. Godfrey email forms to be completed such as Authorized Signatories, Tax Self certification and General resolution.

During our meeting the writer questioned Godfrey with regards to the relevance of the above noted documentation and its relation to the overdraft request. Godfrey added that this forms is just to assist him with our portfolio and is not related to the overdraft. Godfrey added that these forms can be finalized at a later stage or even next year as it has no bearing on the overdraft request.

Within 20 minutes Godfrey left our office and promised a quick response.

There was no quick response. On 30/11/2016 at 17h22 I send a sms to Godfey mentioning that he promised to get back to me the same day and he did not.

He responded on email noting that his laptop has been taken for an urgent security wipe. But he managed to use a colleague’s computer. He then confirmed that he has obtained approval and will email the terms of business and further steps tomorrow.

The above noted promise was made on 30/11/2016. Believe it or not but I did not receive the docs as promised by Godfrey the next day. (I do not hope you are surprised).

Yet again the writer forwarded a sms to Godfrey to please send the terms of business. Godfrey responded by stating the whole process will take 5 working days. He was the again economic with the truth and noted that he cannot send the terms as his laptop is still at IT.

I respectfully refer to Godrfrey’s email where he noted that he managed to use a colleague’s computer.

Godfrey promised in writing that the whole process will take 5 working days. The 5 working days came and as expected it gone without any answer or response from Godfrey.

I contacted Godfrey 6 working days later. Godfrey laughed and mentioned that he is doing me a favour and I should have respect for him as they only handle business accounts which has a 5 million rand annual turnover. My business has an under 2 million rand turnover and he does not have to assist me.

It is factual information provided as proof that ABSA and their employees does not care about the smaller businesses.

I would like to place on record that Godfrey has absolutely no client service s****s and does not care about the ABSA clients.

I further believe it is my duty to inform the members of the public especially the small business owners of the above noted ABSA attitude.(Hellopeter and Benoni City Times newspaper) As Godfrey stated – I am just a small business and I should have respect for him as he is merely doing me a favour and he does not have to assist me.

I do not wish this horrifying experience on any member of the public or small business owner.

On 09/12/2016 at 11h07 Godfrey forwarded the alleged documentation to our office that needs to be completed. Believe it or not it is the exact same documents he send such as such as Authorized Signatories, Tax Self certification and General resolution. I refer to the paragraph where Godfrey noted: Godfrey added that this forms is just to assist him with our portfolio and is not related to the overdraft. Godfrey added that these forms can be finalized at a later stage or even next year as it has no bearing on the overdraft request.

The writer contacted Godfrey and asked him why and how this forms relevant to an already approved overdraft. Godfrey mentioned that it related to a JAD or something. I asked him what is this JAD and what does it stand for? Godfrey noted that he does not know what it stands for and if I do not sign the forms he will not assist us.

Please note this is 7 working days after the date Godfrey provided as “whole process. As from today it is 9 days after the date Godfrey provided as “whole process”
