ABSA system error left me indebted and traumatized
I accompanied my Aunt to open a funeral policy in September 2019 at an Absa Bank in Grahamstown, Absa requires you to have bank account with them before you can have a funeral policy so she did so. We were assisted by Mr V Nzima (ROA Ref No ***) who is a representative of ABSA at the branch in Grahamstown. 9th October 2019 I noticed that the policy is not deducting from my Aunts account, I enquired as I was the one who is responsible for payment of the policy since my Aunt did not work. I contacted the representative at the branch since he assisted with opening the account Mr V Nzima indicated there was an error with their system he will investigate an give me feedback (proof of emails available). Someone from ABSA Head Office called me and apologized for mishap and indicated that the policy will start deducting December 2019. On the 29th of May my Aunt passed on, I requested claim forms from ABSA 1/06/2020 and submitted accordingly. Few days later I was told by Absa that my claim has been rejected because the waiting period of six months has not been reached, to my surprise because the funeral policy was opened in September 2019 and i have documentation from ABSA proving that. Am not responsible for a system error that resulted in them not deducting when they were suppose to because the account had funds in it. When I had to bury my Aunt I had to borrow money to bury her, now I am in debt because ABSA had a system error. To make things worse ABSA sent someone to my mother's house to conduct investigation that I was never told about an that person claims me my Aunt committed ***** because we opened the account telephonically and the monies are deducted from my account not my Aunts. All of this has caused trauma to my family because we are treated like ********* by ABSA and on top of that we are in debt because of ABSA. Am not happy of how ABSA is treating me and my family. I just want to mourn my Aunt in a dignified manner cause and pay my debts caused by the treatment of ABSA.
