ABSA, starting to break down and fail...
<p>I have been a customer of ABSA for nearly 15 years, However in the last few years the cracks have started to show and I feel this bank is on it's way out...</p> <p> </p> <p>First, they leftme stranded in New Zealand with all my accounts locked due to suspicious transactions, this after phoning them from the from the departures terminal to inform them of my travels and making the necessaryarrangements...The situation was unrecoverable and the most I got from Absa was a "We're very sorry"</p> <p> </p> <p>Second, while drawing money at the ATM, after the trasaction goes through, and the machine reboots itself without giving me the money. And then after going through lengthy menus of press 2 for this option or press 6 for that option the only thing I couod get out was that I should phone again during business hours...</p> <p> </p> <p>Third, I am at a restarurant and all my cards get declined, I can't get onto my internet banking and another long list of press this number for that option, I get through to a person who informs me, Oh, they are doing maintenance on the system and all card activity and internet banking is suspended for a few hours...No notifications, no phone calls, no nothing,,,But I'm sure they are "very sorry"</p> <p> </p> <p>Fortunately these situations were recoverable, but what if next time they are not?</p> <p>Target for this week is to see what FNB or Standard bank can offer me and move over to them...</p> <p> </p> <p>I guess the Barclays sell off was the first signs of the cracks showing...But we'll never know because everything is hidden behind menus of press this for that option.</p>

Good day Claudette.
I have logged a complaint regarding being stranded in New Zealand with the Vredenberg (Western cape) branch, and have received no feedback, 2 years later.
The withdrawl issue was solved in that the money was paid back into my account once the machine came online again, but the fact that the phone menus (when phoning ABSA help lines) are extremely cumbersome to navigate through and only lead to being told that I can be helped during office hours is still a problem.
The denied card trasactions and the inability to log onto Internet banking was due to unscheduled maintenance I was told, but I had to figure this out for myself and no for of notification was sent to inform the customers of the (The have tons of details on me, a simple SMS or email would have sufficed)
I was also locked out of my Internet banking account due to a recent sim swap when I upgraded my phone. I really appreciate this as a security measure, but once again, the client should be informed that they will be locked out due to the sim swap and not have to figure it out for themselves...
