Absa repossessed car after 8 years paying

I have bought a 1999 Mazda Etude in 2008 for about R55000. There was a period I have been on debt review. About a year. After debt review I paid the normal amount still. I sent emails to find out why i m still paying for the vehicle 7 years later. Nobody could answer. I called them as well. I then stopped paying in June as I can't pay 8 years on this old car. They came to reposses the car. They say I still owe R34000 on the car which I played since 2008. It was on R55000. I need this vehicle for my job and children. I don't have that kind of money. I hope Absa can now at last come back to me and explain this and make arrangement for me to get my car back and if I understand let me continue with normal installment and finish it.
