Absa refusing to help with ***** loop on unauthorized DebiCheck

I am extremely frustrated with Absa's lack of support regarding an unauthorized R2,000.00 DebiCheck debit order on my account (Account number ending in 6580).

On 31/03/2026, an unauthorized deduction of R2,000.00 went off my account with the company description "Dc Track External Settlement" and the exact reference "Npcapitigsdcprd0001y66kz260331". I have absolutely no agreement with this business, I have no idea who they are, and I have never authorized them to touch my money.

I phoned Absa immediately on the day it happened, and I have called at least 4 times since. I am now being told by Absa email support that the bank cannot stop a DebiCheck permanently, they can only suspend it for 3 months, and that I have to contact this 3rd party company myself to get it cancelled.

This is completely unacceptable. How can a bank expect a customer to track down and contact a *****ulent company that they don't even know, just to stop their money from being ******? To make matters worse, there is absolutely no option or function on the Absa banking app to stop or cancel this debit order from my side.

This is a massive amount of money to lose in a bad month, and it is going to go off again at the end of this month. Absa is completely failing to protect my funds from this ***** loop. I expect a senior manager to look into this case immediately, reverse the R2,000.00, and put a permanent block on this "Dc Track" reference so it can never debit my account again.

Dear Marvellus,Thank you for taking this matter under review. To help you with your investigation, I want to show you exactly what Absa Email Services told me when this problem started.Below is the response I received from Kaveshan Pungan at the Absa Contact Centre:"Kindly note we cannot reverse Debi Check only suspend if the system or the account allows it, but we cannot stop any debit orders, and your request is to be sent for reversal or suspension and note that this is only valid for 3 months and should the amount or reference change the Debi Check will go off your account. Please note to permanently cancel the Debi Check, you will need to contact the 3rd party directly, that is debiting your account."This response is exactly why I had to escalate this matter to Group Customer Care and the National Financial Ombud Scheme (***).It is completely unacceptable that Absa’s official policy is to tell a client to contact a *****ulent third party to ask them to stop *****ing money. Furthermore, allowing a loophole where a *****ster can just change their reference or amount slightly to bypass a 3-month suspension and drain my account again is a complete failure in the bank's duty of care to protect its consumers.I cannot accept a temporary suspension that leaves my account vulnerable to known *****. I look forward to your urgent feedback regarding a permanent, system-level block against Dc Track and the full reversal of the R2,000.00.thanks for the lissine and the help god blessBarend Labuschagne ***

Thank you, and I apologize for the double reply earlier.I just want to be completely honest about my situation. Losing R2000 is a massive blow to my family right now, as I am the only person bringing an income into our household. It is incredibly stressful because every time Absa gets back to me, I am told that I have to call the company myself to get a refund and stop the debit order but I have already explained to Absa that I don't even know who this company is.I really appreciate your time and help with this, and I truly hope we can get this sorted out. Thank you, and God bless.

thHi Marvellus,Thanks for all the help, I do appreciate it and I'm grateful for everything. If the company name was there, it wouldn't be a problem, but everything is just weird. I can't cancel the thing, and I see the next one coming up is for R3000.Like I told Absa, it went off the day we got paid. The only debit orders I actually have are for my car that I pay myself, two car service plans, and a dent cover (which I have cancelled now, but they took it anyway it's fine, I can phone them). I also had the option in the app to stop my credit card, which is under debt review and paid manually. They had debit orders there just in case, but I have cancelled those too.I phoned Absa the day we got paid, 03/31/2026, when this happened. Then the person told me I have to cancel it by email, so this journey started. That R2000 one is the only one with no company name, no contact details, nothing not even an option to stop it. It is weird because all my other debit orders can be cancelled or even reversed if I need to, but this specific one is just stuck. How it even got on there, I have no idea. I will not accept paying a place when I don't even know who they are.Kind regards, Barend
