ABSA REFUNDED MY CHEQUE CARD ***** — BUT DECLINED THE EXACT SAME ***** ON MY CREDIT CARD

ABSA REFUNDED MY CHEQUE CARD ***** — BUT DECLINED THE EXACT SAME ***** ON MY CREDIT CARD

I was the victim of ***** on both my cheque card and credit card on the same day, as part of the same incident. The same *****ster, the same method, the same day.

Absa investigated my cheque card claim (Reference ***9) and refunded me in full — acknowledging I was a victim of *****.

However, Absa has now DECLINED my credit card ***** claim of R69,986.00 arising from the very same incident, claiming that my personal security details were compromised and that this is my responsibility.

How can Absa reach two opposite conclusions about the same *****? On one account I'm an innocent victim deserving a refund. On the other I'm apparently responsible. It makes no sense.

I did not share my PIN, OTP, or CVV with anyone. I was de*****ed by a ******** — that is why I reported it as *****.

To make matters worse, I am aware of another Absa customer who experienced ***** in very similar circumstances and was fully reimbursed. So the bank has set a precedent for refunding customers in these situations — they just aren't applying it consistently.

I have lodged a formal dispute with Absa's ***** Case Resolutions Centre and given them 5 business days to reverse this decision. If they do not, I will be escalating to the Ombudsman for Banking Services and the FSCA.

Absa, do the right thing. You already accepted I was a ***** victim on one account. Honour your obligation on the other.
