Absa profit before their clients s financial well being

I am writing this complaint out of sheer desperation and frustration with ABSA Bank. Over several years, ABSA continuously offered me overdrafts, loans, increased credit limits, and even additional accounts without properly assessing my affordability or income. At the time, I earned approximately R2,000 per month, yet ABSA still proceeded to: Increase my overdraft repeatedly Offer me multiple personal loans Open a second cheque account without verifying a second income Increase my credit limit Issue me a second credit card on top of the first one As a result of ABSA’s actions, I am now sitting with overwhelming debt that I simply cannot keep up with. My current commitments include: A home loan of nearly R11,000 per month A personal loan of almost R5,000 per month Another loan of about R2,000 per month An overdraft of R40,000 A second overdraft of R30,000 A credit card of R45,000 An additional credit card of R30,000 This level of credit should never have been approved for someone with my income. It is a clear case of reckless lending. When I realised I could no longer cope, I did the responsible thing: I contacted ABSA by phone and email to ask for assistance and relief because I am unable to keep up with the debit orders. Unfortunately, no meaningful help has been provided. I have been ignored while my financial situation continues to deteriorate. ABSA has completely wrecked my credit score, pushed me into severe financial distress, and shown no concern for the consequences of their actions. It feels like profits were prioritised over responsible lending and customer wellbeing. I am sharing this publicly to warn other South Africans to be extremely careful when dealing with ABSA. What may look like “help” at first can quickly become financial ruin. I am desperate, exhausted, and still waiting for ABSA to take accountability and offer real assistance. I hope this complaint finally gets the attention it deserves.
