ABSA - NONE OF THE RESPECT, INTEGRITY, SERVICE, EXCELLENCE & STEWARDSHIP IT PROCLAIMS

Our family experienced a massive spate of bad luck in January. First I lodged a claim on the Absa website and received a reference number by SMS. Nothing materialized and I contacted Absa only to be told there is no such claim! I then lodged the claims orally on about 27 January and was soon told I was out of time on one - which was incorrect as I had the timeously lodged on-line number. Anyhow - over the next month there were to and fro's. One claim was eventually rejected - and I actually agreed with the rejection. Another claim ( ********** ) for a small amount was acknowledged and paid out. Absa also took its time with Claim 3 (****** gate motor - ********** ) which I had fixed myself in the interim, but after I rectified my omission for reporting it at the SAPS I was informed on 27 March that this claim was accepted. I received and returned the payment form to Absa on 29 March 2017. No payment was made by Absa. I have phoned and on 6 April enquired by email regarding payment - not even a response. None of the lofty service, excellence, stewardship nonsense Absa proclaims for itself is being practiced in reality. We also had a pool pump failure and accidental subsequent damage to the pool lining with a leaking pool the result in these days of expensive water. This claim ( ********** ) was investigated by an assessor soon after lodgment. I actually thought it would be handled as two claims. Anyhow, the pool pump failure was rejected as fair wear and tear. I accepted that as I actually was the one who pointed that out to the assessor as the most likely reason. Absa however in a real display of no excellence continued to treat the pool pump and pool lining as singular damage. Eventually another assessor was sent out but he also just looked at the pool pump. On the first assessment the pool had a couple of centimeters of water above the lining damage point. The assessor did not bother to get into the ankle high water to inspect. Between the two assessments we experienced lots of rain and the pool began filling. By the second assessment the pool had about a metre of water in it. The non-circulated water has turned green, but the pool is draining steadily. Absa finally took to disrespectful, integrity devoid option to reject the pool lining claim element of ********** on the basis that accidental damage extended to fixtures such as window panes and toilet ware - totally ignoring the fact that ours is a comprehensive policy covering all structures by which the pool is specifically included and regarding which accidental damage is not excluded. By trying to reject the claim on a structural item on a fixture limitation Absa once again makes a mockery of its alleged practicing of the values of respect, integrity, service, excellence & stewardships it proclaims it embraces. I have shown the correspondence to an independent assessor and he is appalled by Absa's behaviour, s**** set and handling of the matter for the past almost three months since lodgement of the claim. I can not express my disappointment and disgust with Absa's service strongly enough.

Thank you very much Ms Le Grange. I appreciate your reply despite it being a shame that it had to come to this given the values Absa proclaims it adheres to. I have been informed today that the review committee will sit on the matter on 18 April - which is not remotely satisfactory given the time that has lapsed, but for the first time it at least represents some hopefully proper attention to the matter. Absa should be way better than this.
I really hope this constitutes the beginning of the end of Absa's respectless mismanagement and poor decisions of this claim, rather than the beginning of the real fight.
I would just like to draw your attention to another increasingly relevant issue. The policy excludes consequential damages, but in law that relates to consequential damage directly related to the original claim, not damages that arose as a consequence of the insurer's mismanagement of the matter, such as continued water loss caused by unacceptable Absa induced delays. Let me however give Absa the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

I would just like to thank Absa and Daphne le Grange for their persistence in NOT showing any respect, integrity, service, excellence or stewardship and for that matter competency. No communication from Absa despite high and low promises that the matter would receive serious attention on 18 April and despite an enquiry by me about the outcome of the alleged review since. Why am I not surprised? Well – I have run out of reasonably amicable options to deal with the worst insurer by far I have ever dealt with and would like to warn the public about them. Non amicable approaches are all that remain. Here we go.
