ABSA- NO SUPPORT TO THE ELDERLY DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN PERIOD

My mom is a pensioner reaching almost 70 - my dad is currently receive chemo and is over 70 - he has no immune system so my mom phoned the branch today 23.04.2020 at 10.00am to assist her to cancel a debit order that the SABC automatically deducted off her account without approval. The receptionist at ABSA Pretoria North - Ellen Pretorius told my mom she must come into the branch to resolve the issue - my mom said she cant due to the lockdown and the fact that my dad has no immune system - her response to mom was "you can go to the shops to buy food, you can go to the pharmacy to buy medicine, surely you can then come to the bank to sort this out". I phoned the receptionist myself and then she changed her story when I confronted her about the call and said my mom can actually do it over internet banking - I am so disappointed in ABSA - this is the worst bank ever in time of uncer*****y, they have no respect for the elderly and the regulations placed upon us through the COVID-19 measures Government has rolled out specifically to assist the elder people - their customer support is the worst ever. I will escalate this complaint further to the highest authority if I get no response via this reporting portal. I will also post this on social media to tell the people how supportive ABSA is during this COVID-19 lockdown period and I will strongly advise my parents to close their accounts at ABSA
