ABSA Merchant - surge charge for card purchase
On 2 March 2016 I purchased 3 items from Rooiberg Superette. I used my bank card as my preferred method of payment. I was told by the cashier that they charge R 2.00 extra for each Point-of-Sale card purchase. I told them what they are doing is wrong and that they in breach of their Merchant agreement with ABSA and MasterCard. ABSA has an agreement with MasterCard which states they cannot charge their clients surge charges. The cashier told me their bank (ABSA) charges for each Point-of-Sale card purchases, hence they charge their clients an extra R 2.00 for Point-of-Sale card purchases. I made an example to them that my bank, charges me bank charges for my usage of their services and now Rooiberg Superette charges me a surge charge of R 2.00 to pay their bank charges. Yet, this example fell on deaf ears and they continue to believe they are right by charging a surge charge for Point-of-Sale card purchases. I want my R 2.00 refunded and ABSA must remove their Point-of-Sale terminal from Rooiberg Superette's premises as this second complaint I'm logging against them. Previously Rooiberg Superette processed Point-of-Sale card purchases as cashback purchases and my bank charges R 1.25
