Absa makes closing an account a mission

Yesterday I visited the Bryanston Shopping Centre branch to close my account (including cancelling my credit card). I paid the amounts owing in cash at the branch and was then told that I have to call my respective credit card call centre. After 15 mins on the line I finally got through to an agent and proceeded to explain my intentions to cancel my credit card. I was told that there is an amount owing on the credit card to which I rep**** that I have gone to the bank and paid that off cash. Due to amount not showing on the agent's system, I was asked to call back again after 24-48 hours once amounts should be cleared.

Cut to this evening... I'm back on the line with an agent who now says that there is another amount owing and that this amount is considered a 'cancellation amount'. So even though you have settled amounts owing on your credit card, there is an additional amount that needs to be paid just to close your credit card. Neither the assistant at the branch nor the call centre agent yesterday disclosed that there would be this additional amount. I now have to call back in another 24-48 hours to try close the credit card. In essence 3-4 days to close an account!
