ABSA LIFE

Writing a review regarding Absa life on behalf of my mom and grandmother

Good morning

My late father had an account with Absa all his life and sadly passed away on 2020/09/23. He had a last will with Absa. On 2020/10/02 my mother, the wife of my father received an SMS stating that R15 000 was paid into his account, account number *******. My mother and I proceeded to Absa bank Bluff to withdraw the money as she needed it for food and rent. We were told that the bank account was frozen as it belonged to my late father and had to contact Absa Trust. I then received a contact number from the branch manager. When I phoned the number it was the will department and confirmed he had a will with Absa. I was given another number for Absa trust and was told to contact them. I then spoke to lee and was told that she will email me all the requirements needed and then once received back from my estate will be allocated to a consultant and will be contacted within 48 hours. Upon receiving absa email on the requirement needed I have made sure all certified documents were there and send an email back on the same day using ***ca. my email notified me that the email was sent on 2020/10/05. My mother then received an SMS stating that the account was opened and I advised her to go and find out from Absa Bluff if she could withdraw the R15 000. When she came from the bank she was in tears stating she had to deposit her last R500 into the account to keep it open. She had no money for food. I decided to phone Absa trust and enquire about what was going on just to hear that the email was not received and I told Lee that my computer has shown me a send report. I then resend the email with all the requirements and kept Lee on the phone to confirm that she had received the email only to be told that the emails work on an electronic system and she will not be able to see if the email was received. My elderly mother has been to Absa Bluff almost every day to make inquiries and complete the necessary documents. I have with my mother to Absa bank and witnessed that the bank manager was annoyed with my mother. I said nothing and took it in a dim view. As I said my mother is old and does not know how the procedures work at Absa bank. She is deaf and walks with a limp. She has not received the proper assistance from Absa and her last bit of money was taken from her. She has no money for food and I cannot help her as I had to pay half of my salary towards the funeral. Why is Absa not assisting my mother as they should, she has lost her husband of 51 years and is going through a grieving process and Absa's poor service delivery is effecting my mother. I need someone to look into the matters above she needs the R15 000 in my father's frozen account to buy food.

I am going to change my bank after being a client for 28 years. I do not want my daughter to go through the same stress should I die. I am very disappointed in Absa and will take this matter to the ombudsmen.

Regards Noleen Nel *** (daughter of late Mr. Dz Barnard)

ABSA SORT THIS OUT ASAP. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!
