ABSA: Killing all possibilities
First negative experience 2019: I had a Business ABSA bond of 750K, when it was at a balance of 290K I wanted to borrow the difference of 2 said amounts to upgrade my business premises. This would have amounted to an additional approx. 5K but was declined due to overexposure. I discussed this with my consultant, Nadia Vali, and she promised to take the matter further. After approx. 4Mths I was notified that everything had been completed and approved and I had to go to our branch to just sign the docs. I also had to sign docs at their lawyers, only there did I find out that I had to pay a substantial amount and upon inquiry was told it is for insurance purposes. 26/04/2019: an amount of R10979.01 was deducted from my account, upon inquiring this deduction from Nadia, she told me that this was for my second bond. The first of which is approx. 13K. This left me with questions i.e., my “Over Exposure” and as it could not be resolved and was the only assistance possible from ABSA it left me indebted with over 23K p/m. January 2022: I tried to do payments out of my account however was barred from accessing it. Upon inquiry, was told it was a FICA block. I was not informed of this and the email ABSA claimed they sent could not be found by me or them. My acc was eventually after a lot of fighting, begging and pleading, unblocked after 3 weeks, during which I had to close my business for 2 full days, as I could not pay for stock. 10/05/2022: I had approx. 2K in my account with no overdraft facilities, due to circumstances (covid etc.) my bond was in arrears for 3 Months. I contacted ABSA and made a payment arrangement to pay the full arrears at the end of May 2022. On 10/05/2022 ABSA transferred R44500 out of my Chq acc into my bond acc, I thought it was a debit order that would return due to insufficient funds, when it was not returned by the 13th I phone Juan Konradie, my new consultant on the morning of the 14th, all my card transactions (80% of my Sales) goes into my acc, which then did not reflect and no new stock could be purchased and my business came to a standstill. Juan is going out of his was to assist me with this, to no avail. I was not notified or asked permission for this deduction and have acquired legal counsel and was informed that this transaction is in fact **********. I can understand why they must frequently change their slogans, as they can’t seem to live up to any of them.
