ABSA is single handendly tanking my home loan process!
I have been a loyal customer of ABSA for so many years now and I’m even on their private client band which makes this so much more frustrating. A month and a half ago, my credit score dropped by 20 points because ABSA reported to the credit bureau that I had underpaid my personal loan by R750 however this is what actually happened: I have a debit order for that loan and at the end of the month ABSA ONLY DEBITED R750 instead of an amount of R8000 odd. Now because I knew I’m in the middle of home loan negotiations. The very next day I walked into a branch to find out why I had been short debited. No one could give me answers but I got the banking details and the reference I was to use and made payment right then and there. My statement then showed that the payment I had made was clocked but the R750 that was debited was rather showing as unpaid. When I went into the branch they gave me a statement that showed this but showed that it had been resolved. Now when I requested a letter from absa explaining what had happened and for them to update it with the bureau. All I got was that it doesn’t show on the next credit score that ran. That is actually not good enough because all it looks like to the bureaus is that I short paid the one month and then caught up the next month and my credit score didn’t recover adequately.
As if this wasn’t bad enough… on the 1st of May I made payment for my credit card and then on the 9th of May I made another advanced payment of a lump sum into my credit card. As a person that has always been paid at month end, my credit card amount has always been due at month end or 1st day of the month. Now I get a call saying that I owe an amount for June. How is that possible??!!! When I made 2 payments in May? I’ve been told my statement date is the 10th. I don’t care about that. Statement date shouldn’t affect the due date of my payments to ABSA. That is not what is in the agreement I signed and I have never changed it. So if it was changed why was I not made aware of this?. So now another situation where my credit score will drop because of a mistake made my ABSA. I have also had a run in with a customer care agent who was busy shouting at me and actually hanging up on me (she was apparently disciplined) but I have this recording of gross incompetence. It has been 2 months of this bad service from absa and due to this I am not able to get an increased percentage acceptance on my home loan. I need this sorted out expeditiously as I have sat in queues at branches and sent emails to no avail!
