Absa is going backwards compared to others.
This is not a review on a specific service, instead an overall review. The last while I have had technical issues with Absa, it took me more than a week to get to some sort of answer.
So thinking these things happen, I again tried a pre-approval for a home loan. They did a credit check which is reflecting on my credit profile and it ran into a technical error AGAIN. I retried and it did a credit check AGAIN for the same thing.
Here is the sad part. I managed to find a home to buy at about R600 000 cheaper than the house's municipal value. Being a first time buyer I thought my own bank would give me the best offer, they however did not even approve me for a 100% loan, instead I have to fork out R300 000 for a deposit and this obviously excludes the R100 000 transfer costs etc. I went to ooba.co.za and they approved 100% of the home loan and their fees are R77 000 (R30 000 less than Absa). Let's be honest, Covid had people struggle and I myself had to spend my savings to survive. So I do not even have the R77k for the transfer costs, but that is simple enough to get hold of compared to R100 000 plus R300 000 Absa wants. Did they never even consider this? Do they think everyone have R400 000 in their bank accounts just in case?
Needless to say, I think I have learnt my lesson now and I will be moving to another bank ASAP. busy getting quotes to transfer my loans and credit card from Absa elsewhere.
We were hoping to investigate and resolve this matter for you hence your particulars were requested for us to look at your banking portfolio.

Unfortunately as I mentioned, I needed to get a home loan because I got a really good deal, my first home loan ever. I have been a loyal customer to Absa, I have 4 loans and a credit card that is being paid on time every time.
My own bank then approved a home loan at only 85% of the purchase price and at 8.9% interest. Two other banks approved me the same day for 100% the amount I app**** for at 8.50% and 8.74% interest respectively.
It is rather disappointing as well that the system is broken and you sit with technical errors when doing applications and then get double credit checks done at Experian.
So I understand you want to attempt to resolve the issue but nothing will be resolved for me. You will not suddenly approve 100% home loan, nor will you give back the 2 weeks of hell I had with technical errors on the application and spending time at the branch and on the phone to customer support and being directed from pillar to post, nor will you reverse the double credit checks due to these technical errors.
I simply posted my review to tell you as a bank to get your act together for the sake of other users, I mean look at your overall score on Hellopeter and do something about your image. The simplest way for me to rectify these for myself is to move to a bank that is able to help me and understand my needs even without me being their loyal customer. Now THAT, is Africanacity.
Have a great day, Ntabiseng, I understand you're just an employee at Absa, so just so you know this message is in general to Absa and not directly at you.
Thanks and Kind Regards,

Bright eyes and full of smiles we left for our branch on Saturday, sat for 45 minutes waiting on a consultant as there were only two available and the one decided helping clients outside at the ATM for 10 minutes was more important that the clients already waiting inside. Eventually we get our turn to speak to a consultant. I have my ID, proof of address and her birth certificate. One look at everything I am told that I cannot apply for her account as my personal details is not displaying on my daughters birth certificate.
I was simply trying to open a bank account for my child, not take her out of the country. Strange thing is I did the same for my elder child a year or more ago with an older birth certificate and there were no such nonsense. So ABSA, here is my response to you. I had to leave your damn branch with a disappointed child that was so looking forward with her cash in hand to open an account and put her money into your accounts for safe keeping.
I think I have had enough now. I have R**** in debt at Absa, I have paid everything on time every time, yet when you try and put your trust into your own bank by thinking they will give you the best deals, they hit you with massive deposit requirements for first time home loans and they show your child away from wanting to open a bank account.
Needless to say FNB took her as a client without blinking an eye. Tomorrow I am taking the day off to visit the ABSA branch so I can get settlement letters for my loans and I will be moving all my family members to FNB. Thanks for treating your loyal customers like they don't belong.

Not sure what will be investigated with her ID number, it was never entered into any system. The lady at Tyger valley branch just looked at the birth certificate and told us she cannot help because my name does not reflect on the birth certificate, it was not entered into any system for you to follow up on.
I have already successfully opened an account for her at FNB 30 minutes later (with the same certificate)
