ABSA Insurance claim - burst geyser pressure relief valve

The valve on the geyser failed and resulted in flooding the ceiling. In order to prevent further damage we punched a few hol;es so that the water could drain.

We registered an online claim on sunday 11th December and received a ref number 36204. The following day we received an email from Melanie Wagner with a web cut and paste on how to submit an online claim. There was no explananation as to why or what we should do as I had already received a ref number.

The following day I tried calling ABSA's claims line but on both occasions waited longer than a hour. The voice online advised that longest waiting time was five minutes. I the posted an email to ABSA's complaints and received a reply requestion home owners ID number. This was strange as I would have assumed it would be on the online claim form.

My wife the homeowner then received another claim reference number by sms Claim ********** and a request for supporting documents. No further explanation. I tried the ABSA claim line again but after 15 minutes gave up and sent them pictures of the damage. It is now almost a week, the pipes are starting the leak and the pressure valve is still leaking. This 24/7 service in my opinion is all marketing and no service. Our floors are of the plastic wooden type and the damage is starting to spread. It would appear that ABSA's call centre is either inundated or non existant.

Hi Claudette...Thank you for your response. I did receive a response from ABSA's action line and in turn a response from HOC. However it required a second call to actionline before HOC sent through a plumber. A few days later a claims officer contact us and came to inspect the damage. We agreed that it would be faster if we were to do repairs ourselves and the matter has been settled. I would give ABSA's action line a five star rating.
