Absa Insurance cares only about their own interests. Shocking facts !!!

My house burnt down on 25 March 2017 due to lightning.

To cut a very long storey very short - I was "underinsured" Let me explain to you how

Absa Insurance has done me in terribly!

3 years ago Absa Insurance did a "Desktop valuation" on my property. ( I realised this after my claim!)

They valued my property at around R1.7million. After the fire incident on 25 March 2017, they sent a Quantity surveyor, Loss Adjuster, 2 x Companies to give quotes on the repair work.

Guess what? The Quantity Surveyor valued my house at R3,4 million !!! (# years later)

Gues what? I am "underinsured" by about 50% !!!

Absa Insurance did a "Desktop Valuation" to cover "just to cover THEIR INTEREST, my bond amount and little bit more". After the fire, Absa had my bond account paid off and gave me the chjange to try and rebuild my home.!!! Needless to say I cannot finish my house with the "change" given to me.

I am 56 years old and wanted to go on pension. I cannot do it now as I have a house that is incomplete and my pension dreams are gone!!!

In the insurance policy Absa insurarance "covered" them by putting in smallprint that I am still responsible to see that a big professional company like Absa has valued the house at the correct value.

Lekker ne? Absa has put this little piece in their policy document to cover their backsides.

What Absa should have done if they had ANY interest in their client is:

Phone, sms or email their client to highlight to him that only a Desktop valuation had been done to cover the bond (Absa interest) and that this valuation is MOST PROBABLY under valued and that the client should make a point of checking this out and increase it to the correct value. (Absa will also make more money as the premium will obviously be higher.

When a fire brake out and the Absa client has a claim, Absa will be covered AND THEIR VALUED CLIENT!!!

Why are they operating this way? It just does not make sense at all.

I hope all those Knysna fire claims are not in the same boat as I am? For goodness sake!!!

I would like to know, if I decide to go to Carte Blance ,(where I know a highly rank manager from primary school days) what will Absa Insurance has to say about this Desktop Valuation used for insurance purposes and Quantity Surveyor used for claims purposes???

I personally feel this is a strategy to proof their client to be "underinsured" If not, why used different methods to determine values with Nr 1 "insurance" and Nr 2 "claims"

Could the public tell me if I am wrong. I will take it like a man!!!

I am still considering going to Carte Blance!

I am taking this set back VERY HARD and my pension date had been moved forward by 10 years!!!
