ABSA Ignoring Multiple Emails Regarding Unauthorised Transaction
I am extremely disappointed with ABSA’s lack of response and customer care regarding an unauthorised debit on my account.
On 8 January 2026, following advice from ABSA Facebook support, I emailed *** to report an unauthorised transaction. I comp**** fully with the instructions in the autoresponse and submitted all required details on 9 January 2026.
Despite this, I received no response.
I sent follow-up emails on 13 January 2026 and 14 January 2026, again with no acknowledgement. I then escalated the matter by emailing *** on 14 January 2026, and *** on 16 January 2026. To date, not a single response has been received from any department.
Background of the dispute:
I signed up for a free trial with an app and cancelled it before the expiry date. Despite this, a subscription fee of R817.33 was attempted and placed on hold. The service provider acknowledged their error and refunded the amount, which reflected in my account.
However, a second deduction of R832.03 was processed to the same provider. The service provider has confirmed in writing that this transaction was not processed or authorised by them.
This raises serious concerns regarding: • How this transaction was processed • Who authorised it • Why ABSA has failed to act or even acknowledge my dispute
As a bank, ABSA should have its clients’ best interests at heart. The complete lack of communication over an unauthorised transaction is unacceptable and reflects very poorly on ABSA’s customer service and ***** support processes.
Resolution required: • Immediate investigation into the unauthorised transaction • Written confirmation of who authorised the payment • Urgent refund of R832.03 • A formal response explaining the prolonged lack of communication
I am posting this publicly in the hope that ABSA will finally engage and resolve this matter.
