Absa ignores requests to honour vehicle warranty

In May last year, I financed a car through Absa. The vehicle had an existing motorplan but the consultant sold me an extended 2-year warranty which she said would take effect after the factory warranty expired.

My original finance agreement reflects this additional warranty payment.

My motorplan has since expired, so I contacted Absa's Vehicle and Asset Finance department on March 14th. I spoke to a lady there who could find no record of my warranty. She suggested I try Absa iDirect, Innovation Group and a few others.

Let it be noted that it is not my job to phone around to find a policy I signed with Absa on an Absa letterhead. Absa should have this information on record.

Next, I called iDirect. They, too, had no clue.

I tried Innovation Group and spoke to a man who couldn't seem to grasp my very simple request. After he put me on hold several times, I was told his team leader is dealing with it and I should expect a call within an hour. That didn't happen.

I called Innovation Group again and this time spoke to a woman named Palesa. I had to explain the entire story once more. She asked to see the documents I was referring to and I sent these along on email.

On the 15th of March, I received a call from a man named Bongani, presumably from the Vehicle and Asset Finance Department. He said they have proof that my warranty was paid for, but it was now just a matter of activating it.

On April 5th, a week after sending an email to Absa's ActionLine, I received a reply stating I would get feedback when it is available.

I'm terribly confused as to why Absa is battling to correct this administrative error - by their own admission - speedily.

My last email to Absa's ActionLine and the Vehicle Finance Department requesting immediate feedback has been ignored, which smacks of unprofessional conduct.

Absa is placing me at risk since I'm now driving a vehicle without an active warranty. Who will take responsibility should I experience mechanical failure? I refuse to be liable for their incompetence.

All documentation required - which has been provided to Absa and Innovation Group before - is once again available on request.
