Absa iDirect insurance
My car is insured with Absa iDirect and i was involved in a car accident on the 12th of November 2017. I opened a police case. On the 13th of November i logged a claim. I was advised the turnaround time for a claim is 10 working days. I went to show the assessor the accident scene, gave him all the witnesses contacts, sent all the documents he had asked for. The assessor sent me an affidavit that i was supposed to sign in front of the commisioner of oaths. I did that and sent it back to him. The affidavit was drafted by him and it was stating that i give Absa idirect permission to request the beacon and billings details of my phone from MTN the network service provider. He sent a request to MTN to access the billing and beacon details. He informed me that MTN had responded saying the telephone number does not belong to me. I called the MTN call centre and also went to an mtn store, i was informed that such information is not accessible unless if there is a Subpoena from court to MTN. The assessor was very rude he started accusing me telephonically that he thinks i am the one tempering with RICA so that the investigation doesn't go through. I dont control network providers regulations. In addition to that the number that i am using i registered it 2010 and has always been mine. From the audit log there won't be any change of ownership from 2010. Is it legal for Absa idirect to just go straight to MTN to request my records without court intervention? Besides it is never a requirement when taking up insurance with Absa idirect to have a cell phone number that is registered in an individual's name for cellphone tracking purposes. How many times do insurance companies access the clients private records for claims? The assessor also said that all the witnesses he had called had said i wasn't driving the car over the phone. He tries to use elements of lies to scare me or intimidate me. There is no INTEGRITY in his investigation INTEGRITY is part of the Barclays values. MTN will never give me such information as an individual. He later sent me an email saying that i am the one who is supposed to go MTN to update my RICA details and he wants access to the beacon and billing details. I don't control how MTN responds to whoever requests information from them. If Absa follows the right channels maybe perhaps MTN will give you access to such information. It is very unpleasant dealing with such rudeness and i am now doubting that it is legal for the assessor to just request such private information from MTN. I will attach the letter that i got from the assessor demanding that i sort the RICA details with MTN within 7 days otherwise he will close the claim.
